THE GERALD A. WRIGHT MEMORIAL FUND

Ask anyone who knew Jerry at all and they all say…”He was the smartest guy in the room”. Jerry’s intellect was a combination of big brain and small tolerance for baloney. Jerry was an attorney and the master of the one-page contract. Imagine that. His thinking was stunningly clear and refreshingly simple. He was iconoclastic, sarcastic, quick-witted and devilish. He graduated high school at 16, went to Harvard, did a stint as an officer in the Navy, went to Stanford Law (while pursuing a JD AND a PhD. in Econ.) and taught law at UCLA.

But one of his real passions was bicycle racing. He started in his late 40’s and mopped the floor with guys his age and younger. Jerry has a closet full of first place medals from races, many of which were against fields of 50 to 100 riders. In the 80’s and early 90’s, Jerry raced to podium finishes in many races in Northern California and the west, including the US Masters Nationals. He also founded the Masters Racing Team that is still in existence today (Mako) and coached his step son in bike racing.

This memorial fund will take the money you would have spent on flowers and help young bicycle racers in Northern California. The fund will award small grants ($600 and under) to junior road cyclists so they can go to races, buy equipment and ride some of the roads that Jerry trained on so happily in Northern California.
