David Nolan Memorial Fund CHARITYSMITH

The David Nolan Memorial Fund

David NolanThis fund was established to honor the memory and life work of David Nolan. David was a loving son, brother, husband, father and friend. His passions were for radio, music, poetry and archival sound preservation.

David passed away suddenly on February 25, 2010 and it was a great shock to friends and family.

David was a long time Volunteer Producer/Host and Engineer at WBAI for programs such as "Live Air", "Morning Dew" and "Gotham Radio Players". He was a 'taper' in the Grateful Dead and jam band scene and was the first employee at the legendary Wetlands Preserve club, where he was DJ and Lighting Designer for the entire 13 years of their existence.

In addition to music, David loved poetry. He engineered the sound for Poets House's annual Bridge Walk and was a regular fixture behind the board at the Poetry Project at St. Mark's Church. At the time of his death he was the Audio Archivist at the 92nd St Y and had just accepted a position to work at WNYC in their Archives and Preservation Unit. He was a founding member of the New York chapter of ARSC, The Association for Recorded Sound Collections, and was an active member of AES, the Audio Engineer Society.

As the community came together to mourn David’s passing it was obvious just how many lives he touched during his time with us. We continue to be inspired by his commitment to all things 'sound' and his presence is sorely missed.

Donations to this fund will be used to support the many non-profits of which he was a an integral part.
